JUDY x Guzzle H20: I need clean water during a natural disaster. Where should I look?

Need emergency water in a disaster? Here's where you'll want to look:

  • Water pouches inside of your JUDY kit (clean & safe to drink immediately)
  • Rainwater (will need purifying)
  • Hot water heaters (will need purifying)
  • Ponds, lakes, and creeks (will definitely need purifying)

This is why we’ve partnered with our friends at Guzzle H2O to make sure you have even MORE ways to ensure access to clean water, anywhere. Guzzle H2O’s water filter uses a two-step process to bring you the best tasting, cleanest water possible by removing contaminants, bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens. This leaves you able to purify water from the following sources during a disaster:

RAINWATER

Collect rainwater falling from the sky.  Obviously this is a seasonal and weather specific  source, but keep it in mind if nothing else is available.  Use tarps, plastic sheets, and containers with large surface areas to catch falling rain water.  When you have enough gathered, put the Stream prefilter in, and pump, filter, and purify into a container for storage and use at a later time.

HOT WATER HEATERS

Your hot water heater has a reservoir of water that normally it heats, to provide hot water to the faucets around your house.  Hot water heaters can be drained, and the water used for drinking water.  Connect the pressure regulator of the intake line of the Stream to the drain valve at the bottom of the hot water tank reservoir.  Open the valve, and turn on the Stream to filter and purify the water.

PONDS, LAKES, AND CREEKS

Look around your neighborhood or property for natural freshwater sources that you may be able to access.  As a general rule, you should be looking for the cleanest available sources, such as lakes and creeks, as opposed to drainage ditches full of urban runoff or more stagnant ponds.  So be selective, but stay aware and pay attention to available natural water resources in your area.

In any event, even though your JUDY kit has enough water to sustain you for up to 72 hours, it’s important to plan ahead in case you end up living in an emergency for longer. This is why we’ve partnered with our friends at Guzzle H2O to make sure you have even MORE ways to ensure access to clean water, anywhere. Learn more about their emergency water filter HERE
